"Write Your Story" by Francesca Battestelli

Todd's Take

When he recorded “My Way” in 1968, could Frank Sinatra have guessed its longevity?  It’s been recorded by countless others, resonating with millions.  As the song’s author Paul Anka said, “It was the ‘Me Generation,’” and his song became the anthem for many.

We’re each living a story, and it seems what was true 40+ years ago, is still at play today.  It’s as if our default mechanism is to passionately fight for the right to do things our way.  It’s about us.

Or is it?

Every day we ultimately have to ask ourselves a simple question… “So who’s in charge of things around here?”

I think that’s what makes Francesca Battistelli’s song, “Write Your Story,” such a powerful and refreshing declaration.  Without hesitation, in her song the tendency to live a life consumed with self is rejected.  And replacing it is a passionate appeal for God to do what He wants.  Our agendas and expectations are no longer the issue.  Our desires diminish in the pursuit of greater things.

What must go through the Creator’s mind when His creation professes what He longs to hear?

I know it's never really been mine,
So do with it whatever You like,
I don't know what Your plan is,
But I know it's good…

This year, let’s live out our story.  It’s being written every day.  But let’s also make sure we’re not the one holding the pen.  God’s a really good author and His stories end up being masterpieces

"Write Your Story" Lyrics

They say
You're the King of everything
The One who taught the wind to sing
The Source of the rhythm my heart keeps beating

They say
You can give the blind their sight
And You can bring the dead to life
You can be the hope my soul's been seekin'

I wanna tell You now that I believe it
I wanna tell You now that I believe it
I do, that You can make me new, oh

CHORUS
I'm an empty page
I'm an open book
Write Your story on my heart
Come on and make Your mark

Author of my hope
Maker of the stars
Let me be Your work of art
Won't You write Your story on my heart

Write Your story, write Your story
Come on and write Your story, write Your story
Won't You write Your story on my heart

My Life
I know it's never really been mine
So do with it whatever You like
I don't know what Your plan is
But I know it's good, yeah

I wanna tell You now that I believe in
I wanna tell You now that I believe in
In You, so do what You do, oh

CHORUS

I want my history
To be Your legacy
Go ahead and show this world
What You've done in me
And when the music fades
I want my life to say

I let You write your story, write Your story
Write Your story, write Your story

CHORUS
