"Lord, I Need You" by Matt Maher feat. Audrey Assad

Christina's Take

We have been waiting all year for this and it's finally here...football season! Now, in my world that simply means boot and scarf weather, and I LOVE it.

So, I realized not long ago that Matt Maher's rendition of "Lord, I Need You,” featuring Audrey Assad has a lot to do with football. Seriously? Really, you say? Yeah!

Follow me... when I played basketball in high school my coach would drill this into our heads: "Defense wins games!" And it's true. If you have outstanding defense, then you are pretty much guaranteed the big "W." Now, switching to football, it's the same scenario. The defensive linemen can greatly assist the team in a victory by how well they defend. They protect, guard, and push back the oncoming offense.

"My one defense, my righteousness, Lord I need you" is a line in the chorus of "Lord I Need You." Are you seeing what I'm seeing?? Yeah!

God, our defender, our shelter and shield; the only defense we need in this game that we call life. And all those mistakes and deliberate mishaps we make, He makes them just fine by HIS righteousness.

He really is all we need, every moment.

I pray this is your prayer daily.

"Lord, I Need You" Lyrics

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

When sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
